Refining the Mental Game of Golf

About Dr. Mona Chandra

Most performance breakdowns in golf are not skill issues. They are access issues.

The swing is there. The ability is there. The challenge is accessing it consistently when the round matters.

Under pressure, attention shifts. Emotion becomes more influential. The body responds differently. What felt automatic on the range can suddenly feel effortful, uncertain, or overly controlled.

Dr. Mona Chandra is a licensed psychologist whose work bridges clinical psychology and high-performance sport. She has worked with athletes across developmental and elite levels, including professionals who have competed on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, as well as performers from the NFL, MLB, and MLS.

Her approach begins with understanding the person before trying to improve the performer.

Every athlete has a different history, personality, belief system, set of strengths, and way of responding to pressure. Dr. Chandra works to understand how athletes see themselves, what they believe about their abilities, where their attention goes under stress, and what patterns tend to interfere with performance.

Her work is organized through the Precision Performance System, built around three core pillars:

Clarity

Clarity is understanding what is actually happening.

Athletes learn to recognize their thoughts, emotions, physical responses, attentional patterns, and behaviors under pressure. The goal is to identify where performance begins to break down and what gets in the way of accessing their ability.

Control

Control is learning how to respond intentionally.

Athletes develop practical tools to regulate attention, emotion, and physical activation. This may include breathing, grounding, mindfulness, attentional cues, routines, self-talk, and strategies for recovering after mistakes.

Control does not mean eliminating nerves, doubt, or emotion. It means knowing how to respond when they appear.

Trust

Trust is turning those skills into reliable habits and performance systems.

Through repetition and pressure-based practice, athletes build routines and responses they can rely on in competition. The goal is to help them commit and execute without hesitation, second-guessing, or overcontrolling.

Across all three pillars, the focus remains on the present moment.

Where is your mind on the course? Are you connected to the shot in front of you, or caught in the last mistake, the next hole, the score, or the outcome?

Dr. Chandra helps athletes return to what is controllable, stay grounded in their process, and allow results to follow from consistent execution.

She believes the mental side of performance is just as important as the physical side. Physical training develops ability. Mental performance training helps athletes access that ability when pressure, expectations, and evaluation are present.

Every program is individualized based on the athlete’s personality, performance patterns, strengths, and competitive demands.

This work is designed for competitive junior, collegiate, amateur, and professional golfers, as well as business leaders and executives who expect their golf to reflect the same standards they bring to the rest of their lives.

The goal is not to eliminate pressure or create perfect confidence.

It is to help athletes understand themselves, respond more effectively in difficult moments, and build a process they can rely on when performance matters most.

Trusted by competitive golfers, professional athletes, and high-performing executives, Dr. Chandra's experience spans developmental and elite levels, including the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, NFL, MLB, and MLS.
